Before you can register for classes, you must check at the Office of International Services to complete your immigration requirements. You must have your passport, your I-20 form, and your I-94 card to check in.
If you have an F-1 (student) visa, you are allowed to work on campus. Your work hours cannot exceed a maximum of 18 hours a week while you attend school full-time and 40 hours per week during vacation time. Campus jobs are generally difficult to get, as full-time USD students have first priority.
Students who do not have proof of health insurance must buy insurance at registration. Because of the high cost of medical care in the United States, all students on an F-1 or J-1 visa are required to have health insurance while in the United States. The cost of health insurance will be included in your fees. The university has negotiated a competitive rate with a private health insurance company. In addition, California State Law requires all university students to be immunized against measles and rubella. You will be required to show proof, in English, of your immunization. If you do not have the proper immunization (or certification of such immunizations), you will be required to obtain these immunizations before arrival. If you have any questions regarding the immunization requirement, please contact the USD Student Health Clinic by telephone at 619-260-4595. For more information regarding the health insurance requirements, request The Insurance Brochure.
