Program Courses:
Through interactive in-class exercises and written and oral assignments, participants learn to recognize, understand and use legal language in U.S. law and the American legal system. Instruction combines a general overview of the American legal system and its terminology. Students will observe the American legal culture through a courthouse visit and trial observation.
This course provides an overview of legal research basics. Students will become familiar with the print and online sources of legal research, as well as the different sources of common and statutory law.
Through classroom discussions, lectures and examinations, the student will improve in reading, writing, note-taking, examination strategies, and oral communication. A strong emphasis will be placed on the fundamental differences in common-law reasoning and the language used in common law.
This course will focus on three sets of skills: reading, vocabulary, and grammar. Using the Longman, Complete Course for the TOEFL Test, students will prepare in-class and through self-study for the computer or paper-based test.
